Taiwanese Dim Sum
Sunday, June 8, 2008
Last weekend, the boat-dwelling friends of Hyoun’s put into port, and we met up with them for Taiwanese dim sum at Chung Shing Yuan.
Some sort of beefy sandwich, between savory pancakes.
Chitlins, spare ribs, sweet potatoes – no, not Southern food.
The Taiwanese version of fried dough. It almost looks like a churro!
Fried turnip cake.
I believe this is called “that unpronounceably awesome meat stick!” Or “gai gnn,” if you want to get technical about it.
It looks like noodle salad. It is, in fact, shredded pig’s ear.
Pickled cabbage, Taiwanese style. Significantly sweeter than Korean kimchi, with a definite sesame flavor.
