Treasured Tapas

Oh, yummy weekend. Went to tapas on Friday with Hyoun, Bitty, and Arthur at Dali – the queso rebozado con miel (fried goat cheese with honey and caramelized onions) remains a favorite; there was also an excellent shepherd’s pie with lamb. The sopa de ajo (garlic soup) makes wonderful winter comfort food, and you can’t go to a tapas restaurant and finish up with anything else but flan. I live just up the street from Dali; I keep thinking I’ll stop in more often than I do, but then maybe I wouldn’t find it as special each time I go.
Then, as we were walking home, I happened to peer in the window of the little convenience store between the ice shop and Kebab Factory, and realized they had gulab jamun on the shelves. When I went into the Kirkland Convenience Store for further inspection, an entire corridor of Indian spices greeted me; multiple brands of ghee and garam masala and other packaged desserts and dinners. I don’t have to go all the way to Shalimar in Central Square to pick up a package of paneer anymore! And they’re even open late.
The second act in Bitty’s Birthday Bonanza came today; she hosted a chocolate and cheese tasting at her apartment. Six kinds of 70% chocolate, a dozen other types with flavors, 14 different kinds of cheese, and a whole bunch of other goodies! And we came home with extra-stinky cheeses and assorted chocolates which will make their way into various baked goods in the near future. Or, in the case of the cheeses, be lucky to survive past dinner tonight.
